Become Who You’re Meant to Be 🔥

I spend a good amount of time listening to podcasts, reading, and diving into audiobooks—all with the goal of learning something new. There’s something incredibly satisfying about hearing different perspectives, communication styles, and watching how people arrive at their conclusions. To me, it’s like sampling new dishes at a restaurant—each one offering a unique flavor.

Lately, I’ve come across some gems that stuck with me. One in particular:

“Self-pity is an addictive drug.” – Mike Rowe (on Theo Von’s podcast)

What makes voices like theirs so impactful, is their lived experiences. Whether it’s memories, education, or hard-earned lessons, that’s the seasoning that gives depth and meaning. And each of us has our own flavor, our own story worth savoring.

Even history’s greatest empires understood this. They told powerful origin stories—mythological or not—to forge identity and inspire greatness. Rome had an origin story that includes family, courage, and being raised by fierce wolves 🐺 . The Incas believed they were descendants from the Sun God ☀️ These stories weren’t just tales—they were a call to live up to something higher.

I see this same theme from Super Heroes —those on the hero’s journey to becoming who they’re truly meant to be. We can learn from that. But only if we take time to reflect:

Who am I? ❓

Where did I come from? 🌍

And where am I going? 🧭

This is my story.

I was born in the harsh winter the day before Christmas—a symbol, to me, that even in harsh conditions, life and hope persist. I come from a long line of pioneers, Vikings, coal miners, and a prophet. Their grit and vision live on in me 🔨.

My parents divorced when I was young, and I was raised by my family and a community of strong, industrious Mormons who taught me with their examples the importance of intelligence, hard work, moral strength, and kindness. Their legacy is etched into my character.

I served as a missionary in Taiwan, learned Chinese, and shared my faith with strangers who became friends and also became baptized. In college, I worked full-time while attending school full-time. That season forged a mindset of, “I will persist until I succeed.” (Of Mandino’s The Greatest Salesmen)

Today, I’m married to a beautiful princess from Peru 🇵🇪 . Together, we travel, build, and live a life centered on joy.

I’m on a path of relentless growth. I will climb higher—no matter the cost. With grit, fuel, fortitude, and intelligence, I believe success is inevitable. This life I’ve been given is a gift. And I intend to use it fully.

Writing this has been a nostalgic and empowering exercise. I encourage you to try it too. Your story doesn’t have to be long. It can be mythical, poetic, simple, or raw. But own it.

Here’s to all of us—becoming the superheroes we’re meant to be 💪.
