Last night, my wife and I carved out a simple pleasure. A late-night post-gym meal at home. The soundtrack to our unwinding? “Queen’s Greatest Hits” spinning on our vinyl record player. Our dinner was simple, easy to make, delicious homemade goodness. Refreshing apple, cucumber, and banana blended into a strawberry smoothie, alongside crunchy whole grain wheat toast topped with creamy mashed egg, cottage cheese, and slices of avocado. 🤤
The ambiance was cozy, casual, and intimate. Soft, white and yellow Christmas lights created a gentle glow across the room, creating a hygge atmosphere. Our conversations flowed through a variety of topics ranging from true crime, the “peaks and valleys” of our day and whatever other thoughts happened to bubble to the surface.
This comfortable, relaxing, and warm moment reminded me of a scene from one of my all-time favorite shows, “The Sopranos.”
To give you some context, in the show, a significant storm has knocked out the power and disrupted travel. Tony Soprano and his family find themselves stranded in their car during a fierce New Jersey storm. Spotting their beloved restaurant, “Nuovo Vesuvio,” welcoming them with a warm flicker of candlelight, inviting them in like a lighthouse to safety, they seize the opportunity to seek refuge and a familiar Mediterranean meal.
Despite the chaos of the outside world, they find themselves together, safe, warm, and about to enjoy delicious Italian food. Before they begin eating, Tony proposes a toast, holding up a tall glass of wine. Here’s the clip for reference.
“I’d like to propose a toast,”Tony remarks to his family. “Someday soon, you’re going to have plenty families of your own. And if you’re lucky, you’ll remember the little moments, like this. That were good. Cheers.”🥂
Last night felt like one of those “little moments,” those precious “flakes of gold” that can show up in our everyday lives. The treadmill of life can sometimes feel relentless. Some of my most cherished experiences involve simply sitting around a table, engaging in conversation, and enjoying games or a meal. Even in solitude, these moments exist – taking a pause to truly appreciate the swampy beauty of the Everglades 🐊 or finding a quiet spot on a Miami beach to listen to the symphony of sounds unfolding around me.
My invitation to you is this: actively seek out these little moments. Consciously identify them, make space for them in your schedule, and savor them for exactly what they are – the essential seasoning that adds flavor and richness to the tapestry of life. 🧂
